Dental Assistant – Plover, WI

Position Summary

The Dental Assistant supports pediatric dental care delivery by preparing the treatment area, patient, instruments and materials; passing instruments and materials to the dentist and performing dental procedures in compliance with practice standards along with prophy assistance and necessary clerical and charting duties for each patient.

Essential Functions

·   Prepare the daily schedule including review of medical history, need of consents, and financial arrangements

·   Prepare work area, equipment and instruments for each patient including chair turnover and proper sterilization

·   Greet patient, prepare them for treatment and assist in making them comfortable during procedures

·   Assist dentist with procedures by passing instruments from the tray to the dentist and suctioning patients

·   Carry out and assist with behavior management techniques as recommended by First Impressions

·   Discuss Post Op instructions and details of the procedure with guardian following the appointment

·   Enter accurate and thorough clinical notes and transaction codes for each procedure into computer system, Softdent and Dolphin

·   Assist the dentist with “Thank You” cards, doctor referrals and treatment complete letters

·   Take impressions for space maintainers, mouth guards, and other appliances

·   Pour and trim models and fabricate appliances when needed

·   Complete lab slips and send appliances out to be made

·   Assist with all other orthodontic processes as needed

·   Take panoramic, cephalometric, bitewings and periapical x-rays

·   Maintain a clean and organized work area

·   Review and send treatment information to insurance carriers

·   Calculate applicable co-pays according to patient insurance coverage

·   Be able to perform the duties as outlined in the Pedo Prophy Assistant job description

·   Perform weekly and monthly lab cleaning and maintenance of autoclaves and statims as well as maintenance of other equipment and hand pieces

·   Inventory and stock supplies as needed

·   Provide coverage in other areas as needed

·   Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

·   High School Diploma

·   Strong desire to work with children

·   A minimum of one year experience working with children preferred

·   Dental Assistant Certificate preferred

·   Strong customer service skills and commitment to patient/parent satisfaction

·   Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with and educate parents

·   Good hand/eye coordination, manual dexterity and precision

·   Basic computer and data entry skills

·   Requires local travel to other First Impressions offices

·   Must be able to promote teamwork and communication between coworkers

·   Ability to maintain patient confidentiality

Working Conditions


Will be responsible for working in a dynamic environment with a fully equipped and well-lit office. May be required to stand or sit for extended periods of time.  Frequent/Occasional lifting of 10-50 pounds.  A need to travel via automobile to the satellite office locations is required regularly.  May be required to work longer hours than the average 40-hour workweek to meet deadlines and the needs of the office.
